21 Days Yoga Challenge
You’ve probably heard the saying that it takes 21 days to establish or break a habit, but have you ever wondered where this number originated? Well, here’s the backstory. Back in the 1950s, Dr. Maltz noticed a consistent pattern among his patients. Whether they underwent a cosmetic surgery like a nose job or a life-altering procedure like a leg amputation, it seemed to take around 21 days for them to adjust to these significant changes. Conducting his own experiments, he confirmed that a minimum of 21 days was required to adopt new behaviors. He documented these observations in his book, “Psycho-Cybernetics – A New Way to Get More Living out of Life.”
However, as time passed and more self-help experts began citing Dr. Maltz, the original statement got misconstrued. Nowadays, many assert that it takes precisely 21 days to form a habit, but it’s crucial to note that Dr. Maltz emphasized a “minimum of 21” in his book.
In short, the idea that good habits are formed in just 21 days is a misinterpretation. Rather, engaging in yogic practices consistently for at least 21 days can serve as a catalyst for transformative changes. Over time, these practices become ingrained, leading to a lifelong journey of self-improvement and witnessing continual transformation.
